Dearest Josephine,

I have been thinking of you so much over these weeks and tried to call but not got through. Thinking of everything you must have been through over these last months with Benjy's deteriorating health and now reconciling yourself with his final journey onward and the absolute loss that is to you all the boys and our  family.  Just such huge huge love to you and your heart.

What an incredibly special person Benjy is/was. Such humour and wit and incredible delivery, such a figurehead in the family, a carrier of stories, memories, legacies, upholder of values.  I have learned so much family history from him, so many stories, such treasure, really pricelessly precious to have the family stories, and so many funny anecdotes.   He had such a gift for remembering and delivering tales at the perfect time.  He has been there every Christmas, so many Sunday lunches and memorable occasions, all through my childhood and adult life.  I can hardly believe he is gone, so I can only imagine what loss you must be feeling.  What a special person, my mind is flooded with stories and memories.  The parts of him in Harry and the boys are so clear.  It was lovely seeing Richard twice last week and seeing Benjy's trademark wit.

I will be thinking of you all on Monday for his funeral and sending so much love.  What a strange time to go and a strange world to leave.  What a time to live through.  He died on the same day as two of my very special friends.  I have a sense that they are all now expanded, they are everywhere as well as nowhere.  Hoping he has the best of accompaniment in his soul's path onward.

Wishing you receive all the support and care available and that you have the most gentle of paths through this horrible time and sending huge thanks and appreciation for the incredible couple you have been together, your love and support of each other that was so evident.  I'm sure he must have been tricky at times too, but my memory of you both is laughter and love.  Celebrating that and giving such thanks for his life and his remarkable character.

Lots of love

Sophie
